According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the city is currently home to 1,350 craft and vocational villages. Of these, 268 have been officially recognized as craft villages, and 59 have been officially recognized as traditional craft villages. Thus, Hanoi has 327 officially recognized craft and traditional craft villages in total, accounting for nearly one-third of the total in Vietnam.
Hanoi’s craft and traditional craft villages are currently classified into 6 categories:
- Processing and preserving agricultural, forestry and aquatic products: 70 villages
- Producing handicraft products: 22 villages
- Handling and processing raw materials for rural production and trade: 16 villages
- Producing wooden furniture, rattan, ceramics, glass, textiles, yarn, embroidery, wickerwork, and small mechanics: 200 villages
- Producing and trading of ornamental creatures: 14 villages
- Providing services for rural residents’ production and life: 5 villages
